Calrossy Anglican School’s Amelia Simm bagged a golden haul at the recent Hunter Region Independent School (HRIS) primary swimming carnival.
The Year 6 student was named the 12/13-years girls age champion after winning her 50m freestyle (34.14secs), 100m freestyle (1min 12.71secs) and 50m breaststroke (42.37secs).
She also picked up a second and a third.
Simm was part of a 40-strong Calrossy contingent that competed at the carnival.
Based on past performances they were in the top division, and had a fantastic meet with many swimmers achieving top 10 placings.
Alongside Simm’s effort another highlight was in the 12-years boys where Calrossy were named team champions despite Archie Barnett and Jake Hebblewhite being the school’s only two swimmers in that division.,
Also both in Year 6, Barnett was second in the 12/13yrs boys 50m (31.83secs) and 100m (1min 10.76secs) freestyle, and 200m individual medley (2mins 57.33secs), while Hebblewhite won silver in the backstroke.
It comes after Barnett and Simm blitzed the Calrossy carnival winning their age championships and breaking school records along the way.
They and Hebblewhite will now represent HRIS at the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) carnival at Homebush on Thursday March 22. From that the CIS team to swim at the NSW PSSA carnival will be selected.
Another 50 swimmers will compete on Thursday at the secondary HRIS carnival.
