Playing in the Division 1 Men competition, the Bolts hit the road to take on the Hornets and returned with a 64-51 victory.
Tamworth coach John Ireland said he was happy with the performance.
“I was pretty happy with the effort and the commitment from all the guys was outstanding,” Ireland said.
“There’s always a bit of unknown heading into a new season with player movements and new guys and young guys replacing those guys who are moving on to new experiences.
“It was always a fairly tough contest. In the first half, we did a great job defensively and held them to about 21-22 points for the half, that was fantastic.
“In the third and the fourth, we managed to blow the score out to 20 but a few defensive transition errors and execution allowed them to get back into the game and back to 10 at one point but the guys finished well.”
Chris Skilton was Tamworth’s top scorer with 18 points followed by Matthew Monckton with 11 and Rhys Chillingworth with nine.
