Former Australian Test stars Jim Williams and Gary Ella, who collectively boast 20 appearances in the “green and gold”, are the guest speakers at the club’s official launch, from 2pm, at The Belmore Hotel on Sunday, March 18.
The pair will also host a coaching clinic for the town’s juniors beforehand at Sir Owen G Glenn Rugby Park.
“It’s a bit of a coup,” newly-appointed Brumbies president Duncan Pinfold said.
“Jim and Gary are bringing some memorabilia with them to auction off, too.
“It is also a chance for us to repay the crew at The Belmore for their sponsorship.
“We’ll have finger food on offer, plus a musician to entertain the crowd.
“It will be $20 to attend while kids are free.”
A day earlier, on Saturday, March 17, the Brumbies are hoping to dust off the cobwebs in their first trial against Warnervale.
“They’re coming up with one squad, so we’ll blend the two grades,” Pinfold said.
“Our girls have a hit-out organised, too.
“They will kick off from 3pm, with the guys taking the field at 3.30pm.
“Then, on Saturday, March 24, we’re heading down to Highbrook Park to continue our rivalry with the Muswellbrook Heelers.
“We’re looking forward to that encounter.
“We have had 17 to 18 players at pre-season training – and we’re working hard to improve on that figure.
“Any juniors, or newcomers, will be welcomed with open arms.”
Pinfold admitted things were “shaping up well” for the Brumbies.
“On the back of last year’s performance, and our 50th anniversary, where we made the top four, we’re keen to build on that effort,” he said.
“We’ll field firsts and reserves, as well as a women’s side, in 2018.
“Unfortunately, we’ve lost a number of players, including Toby Twigg, who’ll be hard to replace.
“So, our primary goal is to fill two senior sides.
“And, from there, a semi-final berth again.”
The Brumbies open their CNRU account with a showdown with Barraba at Scone on April 7.
