Faces of Tamworth: The face of Daffodil Day, Margaret Rock

SHE’S the local cancer survivor who’s on a mission to help others. Volunteering on Daffodil Day for more than 15 years, Margaret Rock is still doing her part to help “find a cure to this horrible disease”. She’s tonight’s Face of Tamworth.

“Daffodil Day means everything to me”, melanoma survivor Margaret Rock told The Leader at the time.

She has been supporting the Cancer Council NSW initiative for more than a decade.

“We have many supporters who each year seek out our table to buy the latest Dougal bear or pins,” she said.

“I am a proud supporter of Cancer Council and value what it stands for and all the many loyal volunteers out there doing their bit to help find a cure for cancer.

“Having lost three siblings to cancer, my sister-in-law a bowel cancer survivor, I know what it is to deal with this disease.”

Mrs Rock said living away from metropolitan treatment centres was hard for many regional cancer sufferers, but there was always support close by.

”This is when you appreciate the role Cancer Council NSW plays in supporting you,” she said.

“I am totally immersed in many areas of fundraising for cancer being a member of the Wig Library where we make turbans for survivors, a member of the Lioness Club which fundraises for Cancer Council NSW.

“Our community knows all about Daffodil Day and what it stands for.  However, very many people who are unaffected by cancer are not aware just how far reaching Cancer Council is, and all the amazing things it does to support Cancer sufferers.

“Not until you have been there yourself do you understand fully and appreciate the support you are given through Cancer Council’s Helpline and their transport to treatment service, to name but a few.”

Look out for Margaret and her happy team of volunteers on Friday, August 25 when she will be at her usual spot selling Daffodils and Merchandise

All funds raised through Daffodil Day help Cancer Council NSW fund vital cancer research, prevention, information and support services.
