The over 60s beat Coffs Harbour on Friday night at No. 1 Oval before knocking over Quirindi at Quirindi on Sunday with a number of players turning out for both fixtures.

On Friday, Tamworth let their batting do the talking in a high-scoring affair.

Tamworth was sent into the field as Coffs Harbour posted 9-184.

Ben van Aanholt (2-20), Scott Hobden (2-23) and David Jurd (2-29) all took two wickets each for Tamworth.

Tamworth then lost just three wickets as they tracked down the runs in 37.4 overs.

A string of retirements saw five batsmen pass 20 runs in the chase with Ron Radford (36*) the pick of the lot.

Against Quirindi, less runs were scored but the result was the same for the Tamworth outfit.

Tamworth scored 6-110 in reply to Quirindi’s 9-108.

Terry Murphy (2-7) and Barry Everingham (31*) were standouts for Tamworth while Jim Stewart (24*) and Ken Cudmore (3-16) were Quirindi’s best.

Tamworth Veterans Cricket will now focus on their Pink Stumps Day on Friday, March 9 under lights at No. 1 Oval.

Tamworth Veterans Cricket president Greg Kellett encouraged everyone to turn out and show their support at the match.

“We’ll have the zinger bails, a pink stumps kit, pink caps and bandanas,” Kellett said.

“We’re going to have the lionesses cooking a barbecue, and there’ll be drinks available.”
