The 30-year-old man suffered a single stab wound in his abdomen at a house in Mills Street.
Police were called to the house after reports an argument broke out between two men shortly before 3pm.
Paramedics treated the 30-year-old who was rushed to Tamworth hospital in a serious condition.
A 56-year-old man was arrested at the scene and “was assisting with inquiries” on Friday night, a spokesperson said.
The house was cordoned off and crime scene police called in to comb the area.
Preliminary investigations suggest the pair are known to one another, police said.
Officers were seen interviewing witnesses and confirmed a weapon, described as a steak knife, was seized from the scene.
No charges had been laid on Friday night and investigations continue.
