Along with participants from local disability organisations such as Sunnyfield and G.S Kidd Memorial School, swimmers took part in a range of competitive and non-competitive events. 

Challenge CEO Barry Murphy said the event is one of the best things Challenge does.

“The day is totally organised by our workers here in Gunnedah, local volunteers in Gunnedah and community members who come along for the day,” Mr Murphy said.

“Our people just love the event, they come in droves.”

Mr Murphy said the event provides everyone with a great day.

“Everyone gets very excited for all of the events and there has been quite a lot of training done by everyone in the lead up,” he said.

“All in all it is a really great day.”

Gunnedah deputy mayor Gae Swain told The Namoi Valley Independent at the carnival that it was an enjoyable event to be a part of.

“This really is a beautiful event,” Cr Swain said.

“It’s so nice to see so many people get involved and get behind it.

“I can only encourage anybody in our community who hasn’t been to a Challenge event to get out there and take a look because they are so fantastic.”

Mr Murphy said Challenge will next be participating in an athletics carnival.

“This is one of first major sporting events,” Mr Murphy said.

“Down in Quirindi they run an athletics carnival, which I think will be the next event on out calendar.

“Other places run sporting events as well so we also be looking at taking part in those.

“These events are terrific and really get people talking about how successful the events are and the impact they have.”
