THE New England has a new top cop with Superintendent Scott Tanner officially announced as the commander of the new police district.
The announcement was made on Wednesday but Superintendent Tanner has been filling in the role, overseeing the merger of the old Barwon and New England commands, since December.
Under the new police district, Superintendent Tanner will oversee an area with 22 police stations stretching from Uralla, north to the Queensland border and west to Mungindi, taking in towns like Bingara, Warialda, Boggabilla, Moree, Glen Innes, Tenterfield and Inverell.
“Superintendent Tanner has been working in this district for some months and during that time he has established himself as a compassionate and effective police commander,” Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said.
As part of the commissioner’s re-engineering process, officers-in-charge have been appointed and will be based in Armidale, Inverell, Glen Innes and Moree with two additional district inspectors announced as part of Superintendent Tanner’s leadership team.
