A board games night this evening at Tamworth Library will also be the launch of its board game collection.
The games will join other quirky non-literary items available to borrow, such as seeds and baking tins.
Reader services librarian Amanda Burke said the library also hoped to start hosting regular games nights.
Previously:
“During some discussions on how to bring in library patrons – besides borrowing books – we were coming up with collections that may bring non-library patrons into the library,” Miss Burke said.
“A lot of libraries have now started a board game collection, so we thought that we could trial that.”
Miss Burke said the games night, and the borrowing collection, would include Ticket to Ride, Codenames, Citadels and The Walking Dead.
“We’re trying to bring in the non-traditional library users for them to come and see that the library is a place for them to meet people, have fun and generally come and utilise the space they may not otherwise, if they’re a non-reader,” she said.
The games night is free, for people aged 18-plus, and will have canapes, boutique beers and wines on offer.
It’s part of the annual Library Lovers’ Day, the Australian Library and Information Association campaign which sees libraries holding special events in the days around February 14.
