It was Campion’s first time attempting the 3000m event after stepping up from the 2000m.
And not only did he win the silver medal at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, he also managed a qualifying time for the National Championships in March.
Campion admitted he was a little underdone, training-wise, with the meet at Sydney Olympic Park his first for the year.
“I went into it and I was a bit worried because I hadn't got the national time but I rated it pretty well,” he said.
“The last kilometre was really different because I had never raced that far over steeples before.”
The National Championships are little more than a month away and Campion said he is going to knuckle down in the lead up to the event.
“I haven't trained as hard as I could have for the last three months so the next five weeks I am actually going to train pretty hard and hopefully I can be a contender at Nationals,” he said.
Mikielee Snow and Gracie Martin also competed at NSW Juniors in multiple events with the pair reaching the final of the 200m.
