Cook’s last win came almost two years ago when Our Blevic won at Grafton but he’ll have another chance to get back in the winner’s circle at Tamworth on Tuesday.
First-starter Canny Watch – who is owned by Cook’s partner Fiona Rodwell – will go around in the Tamworth City Toyota 3YO Maiden Plate (1000m).
Cook said the gelding had been “going pretty well” after the trainer took over the training duties of Canny Watch from Jerome Hunter.
“He was a bit light on when we got him so he had two months in the paddock,” Cook said.
How Canny Watch will go at the races is anyone’s guess.
The three-year-old has had just the one trial – in Cranbourne with Hunter – and a bit of a gallop with a few other horses while under Cook’s watch.
With that being said, Cook was unsure if Canny Watch could break his trainers winless run.
“One can only hope,” Cook said.
There is one thing Cook does know for sure.
“Greg [Ryan] will give him every chance,” Cook said.
“Greg’s only ever rode three times for me and I think he’s had two firsts and a second.”
