As players start flooding back through the gates of Boughton Oval after the Christmas break, first grade coach Scott Girard is preparing his side for a big year.
Boars president Mark McGrady was pleased Girard put up his hand for the role, taking the next step after coaching reserves for a number of years.
“Scotty has come close on a number of occasions to securing a premiership for reserves,” he said. “He’s got a straight forward plan for the boys this year to ensure for our 100th year we’ve got the best side on the paddock.”
Paul Raveneau Jnr will step up to coach reserve grade, former president Todd Mitchell will lead the under 16s side and McGrady will assist Brittany Tighe to coach league tag.
Twice a week for the past six weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays, league tag training has been strongly attended by 16 keen players.
The Moree Boars league tag side is not shy of success after securing back-to-back premierships in 2015 and 2016.
First grade, reserves and U16s have been training from 6pm on Mondays and Thursdays. McGrady encouraged any league players thinking about having a run this year to head down.
The Moree Boars committee has had a fresh shuffle as some new, young faces have taken on volunteer roles for 2018.
Deb Holland will take on the role of vice-president and Phil O’Loughlin has put his hand up for junior vice-president. Ashlee Johnston will be the club’s secretary and registrar, and Kerry McDonald will be treasurer.
Committee members include Jason and Trish Humphries, Peter Hobday, Todd Mitchell, John Lawton, Adam Annis-Brown and Antoinette McNamara.
The club’s 2018 patrons include Alf Scott, Doug Dufty, Paul Raveneau Snr, Jeff Greenaway and Rodney Schoupp.
“Reaching 100 years only comes around once for a club, and some are lucky to have it happen it their lifetime. Our new committee have some big plans to celebrate this achievement,” McGrady said.
The committee have already started planning for this year’s Bernie Briggs Day, Women in League round, an Old Boys Day, a 10-year reunion and a possible 100-year fundraiser for the Boars.
With the season set to start after Easter in the first weeks of April, McGrady encouraged all Moree Boars players to head down to training.
