Bill Marmara snares two wins at greyhound race meet at Gunnedah

Bill Marmara clocked up a pair of wins at Gunnedah’s non-TAB meeting on Sunday with a rare win for one of his dogs while a proven performer well and truly returned to form.

The Gunnedah-based trainer opened his account when Evie’s Magic got up by almost three lengths in the Kankool Pet Meats Heat 1.

It was her first win since April last year and came after Evie’s Magic had finished in the first half of the field on her last seven outings.

Evie’s Magic will move through to this Sunday’s final following the heat win but Marmara thinks his dog will have too big a fight on her hands in the final.

“I think there are a lot better dogs in there,” Marmara said.

“Anne’s Nitro. I think she’ll be far too good.”

Marmara knows just how good Anne’s Nitro is.

My Brother Sam, trained by Marmara, went head to head with Anne’s Nitro on Sunday.

“He [My Brother Sam] ran a very good race but got beat by a length,” Marmara said.

Marmara’s second win of the night came from the prolific Evie’s Best.

The speedster notched her second victory on the trot after missing out on a win from her previous three starts.

Evie’s Best’s record now sits at 32 wins from 60 starts at a strike rate of 53 per cent.

She’s only missed a place on eight occasions.

“She just loves racing,”  Marmara said.

“She’d been on season, that threw her out a little bit where she had a couple seconds and a fourth.

“She’s over that not and she’s going good.”

Marmara plans to race Evie’s Best again this Sunday at Gunnedah.
