“The guys in the middle order didn’t get enough runs,” Kellett said after Tamworth went down to Hastings in an over 60s cricket match in Wauchope on Sunday.
“It’s probably the same as every game but if we score another 20 runs – we win the game.”
Over 60 per cent of Tamworth’s runs were scored by just four batsman.
Openers Chriss Crowell (31) and Tom Kellett (17) started things off well before tailenders Greg Kellett (19) and Steve Beaton (16) finished in a hurry.
Those four did the bulk of the run-scoring as Tamworth made 132 runs after 40 overs.
While Hastings eventually won by seven wickets, the victory was never a formality as Tamworth’s bowlers bowled tight lines.
Greg Kellett (1-16), Ben van Aanholt (0-13), Steve Beaton (0-13) and Peter Boyd (0-16) had a combined economy rate 2.4 runs per over.
However, Hastings found the runs in other places and went past Tamworth’s total with two overs to spare.
The over 60s side will now look towards their match against Coffs Harbour which will be played on March 2.
