The police said that at about 10 pm they were told that “a man and a woman entered a service station on Church Street, armed with a carving knife.
“They threatened a 26-year-old employee before stealing a cash register.
“A third man was waiting outside and the group fled on foot.”
The police said that a 22-year-old woman was arrested at a home on Manns Lane at about 9 am on Tuesday and a 21-year-old man was arrested at a home on Railway Street in the same afternoon.
And then later on Tuesday afternoon, they say “a 23-year-old man attended Glen Innes Police Station where he was arrested.”
The three were taken to Armidale Police Station and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
They were all refused bail to appear at Armidale Local Court.
The owner of the Shell servo said the staff had been terrified by the events.
The moment the raiders had gone, the petrol station server rang proprietor Vinnie Benewal at his home next door.
Mr Beniwal said: “My staff was so scared but I had told her to cooperate but she was scared – shaking”.
Store video of the raid shows the woman with her arms raised in fear as the two assailants threatened her and ransacked the store.
Mr Beniwal said his assistant was terrified and traumatised by the raid. He said he too was unable to sleep since.
Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
The police are currently investigating other break-ins in the town though there is not suggestion they are linked to the latest in the Shell station. The Sunday before last, people got into the church hall behind Holy Trinity Church on Meade Street and stole a television as well as ransacking the place.
