The One On One solo show saw Connors perform his favourite songs from throughout his career, which has included 18 album releases and 14 Golden Guitars.
Connors played several different guitars during the solo show, including an eight-string baritone, which he described as a beautiful noise-maker, when The Leader caught up with him earlier in the festival, as we was busy rehearsing for the concert.
He said it had been a while since he had performed solo.
“I guess it brought home to me that fact that you can get a little lazy, so the preparation has been fantastic, getting the fingers flying again and realising I can do this,” Connors said.
“This is something I’ve been able to do for a long time, but I’d relaxed a little and fallen into the arms of the musicians I play with.”
Connors played songs from throughout his career on Friday.
He has said his favourites were often the same as the audience’s favourites, while he also has some songs that had to be included, because of their popularity.
“The beautiful thing about a solo performance is reinvention, and looking at a song from a different angle, and that (was) part of the pleasure and joy of preparing for this show,” he said.
Connors is currently working on a new album of original songs, which is due to be released this year.
“You are always looking for new territory to explore and I’m finding the fact that it has coincided with the solo tour has been great for me, being back on the tools is certainly influencing the songwriting,” he said.
