Andre competed at the 2018 Tamworth City Long Course Qualifying Carnival – his first competitive carnival – last Sunday.
Andre said he swam some quick times on the day and that he’s enjoyed his training with Gunnedah Swimming.
“I got into the club and they fixed all my strokes up and got me a bit fitter,” Andre said.
“And dad said I’m looking as good as him when he was young.”
Andre says his main goal in swimming is to beat his dad's times in the pool.
It won't be an easy task as Andre's dad Luke was a "very good swimmer", according to Swimming Gunnedah's Justin Hobson.
"They have the dash for cash at home [Gunnedah] on Australia Day normally and he came out of retirement," Hobson said.
"He hadn't swum for seven of eight years and won it in boardshorts."
