Early Saturday morning, Narrabri Fire and Rescue crews received a triple-0 call to reports of an unknown fire on the river bank under the overhead rail bridge just off Maitland Street.
Initial reports stated that multiple explosions could be heard.
“With this in mind, firefighters approached the incident cautiously, where they found a utility vehicle and a small area of grass well alight,” Narrabri Fire and Rescue posted to its Facebook page this morning.
“A BA crew got to work extinguishing the blaze with a line of 38 utilising foam to assist in quickly knocking the fire down.”
Crews also called in the hazmat van to help contain and render safe a large amount of diesel and oil that had entered the Narrabri Creek by using specialised hydrocarbon booms and spagsorb to absorb the spill.
