A passion that has seen him travel around NSW competing with the state’s best shearers before taking out the NSW intermediate state championship earlier in 2017.
The Murrurundi man’s quest for success did not end there, as he recently took out the national intermediate shearing championship in Bendigo.
“It was a tough competition all the way through,” Mr Burraston said.
“From the regular meets around NSW to the nationals, your concentration level had to be up and you had to be at your best.”
The 24-year-old was modest about his victory, telling the NDL he thought his performance in the finals “was not all that good”.
“I was pretty surprised when they announced the winner, to be honest. I didn’t think my cut was good enough and when the judges announced there was a clear winner by 10 points I thought: there’s no way that’s me.”
Mr Burraston said he would now focus his attention on moving into the senior shearing ranks for competitions in 2018 starting in Glen Innes on February 10.
