BREAKING:
A car has caught fire in Cinders Lane on Wednesday afternoon.
Council workers told Fairfax Media they saw flames bellowing from the front of a silver Volkswagen just after 1pm.
“First we smelt the burning plastic and then grabbed a fire extinguisher and put it out,” the council worker said.
“But it was going up pretty quick.”
Police and firies were called to the scene and burnt matches were found by the front of the vehicle.
The incident is being treated as suspicious.
There are also reports of multiple fires, including one at Rice More and Gibson Solicitors.
Just hours earlier emergency services were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Marsh and Mann Street in Armidale.
A silver sedan flipped onto its roof at the top of the intersection, blocking Marsh Street.
Station Commander of Armidale Fire and Rescue NSW, Steve McWhirter said no one was injured.
