Gregory Martin-Mallise will undergo a health assessment after fronting Tamworth Local Court on Tuesday on several charges stemming from a police chase south of Tamworth on the New England Highway on Monday afternoon.
Police will allege Martin-Mallise failed to stop near Sugarloaf Mountain, north of Wallabadah about 2.30pm.
Highway officers allegedly detected him travelling in a white Ford sedan at 175km/h in a 100 zone.
A second highway patrol car also allegedly detected him travelling at 174km/h on the highway near Kingswood, but despite activating their warning lights and sirens, he allegedly failed to stop.
Martin-Mallise was arrested in a carpark in the Longyard area shortly after by Target Action Group (TAG) officers, and was allegedly caught with a small quantity of drugs believed to be cannabis.
He was not required to enter a plea to the charges of police pursuit Skye’s Law, travelling more than 45km over the speed limit, driving in a speed or manner dangerous and possessing a prohibited drug.
The case has been adjourned.
