The dynamic duo are trading the blue and gold of ACT/NSW Country for the green and gold after being selected in the Cricket Australia XI,.
Their selection comes on the back of their outstanding performances at the under 15 nationals in January.
Playing a prominent role as ACT/NSW Country secured back to back national titles they were subsequently named in the merit (development) squad to attend a training camp at the National Cricket Centre in October.
Impressing there they found themselves preparing for another national campaign. Both hold fond memories of Canberra.
The scene of their under 15s triumph, for Graham it was also where she snared her maiden double hat-trick. A rare feat, the medium pacer claimed four wickets in four balls on her way to an amazing 5-1 against Victoria Country.
Davidson also shone and was named player of the match in their final game after smacking 77 off 65 balls.
Both said it was a bit of a surprise to learn they’d made the side but are looking forward to what will be a challenging two weeks of cricket.
“The first week will be T20s then we’ve got 50 over games the second week. It will be full-on,” Graham said.
But a great learning experience. How could it not be with the likes of Leah Poulton and Meg Lanning on the coaching staff. In idol of Graham’s, Lanning is listed as the Twenty20 assistant coach, and also helped out at the camp in Brisbane.
“That was pretty cool. We didn’t know she was going to be helping us,” she said.
Inspiration was in abundance with the Australian team also training up there.
They got to play a bit of table tennis with Lauren Cheatle and Alyssa Healy and watch the first one-day international.
Graham also went to the three games in Coffs Harbour and the third day of the test match, and was in the stands when Ellyse Perry smacked her unbeaten double century, which was great to watch.
Graham and Davidson both list the allrounder as their cricketing role model.
Both are allrounders themselves, although weren’t sure of their exact roles at the upcoming nationals.
Graham has been playing with Northern Districts in the Sydney second grade competition this season. Stepping up from the Brewer Shield (under 17 competition) last season she took 2-9 off five in her last outing for them.
Davidson hasn’t spent a lot of time in the middle only playing her first game for the Bective East second grade side the other week.
She’s been doing a lot of training and working on getting better as a cricketer.
It is shaping for a big summer for the 15-year-old. At the end of January she’ll be part of the ACT/NSW Country side defending their national title in Adelaide.
Graham just missed the 15s cut-off by about a week.
The CA side have Victoria and Queensland on the opening day.
Inverell’s Claire Lennon will meanwhile be playing for the ACT/NSW Country side.
