As Wests prepare to face a wounded North Tamworth in a two-dayer at Riverside 1 on Saturday, new skipper Mudaliar agrees that a large part of his job at present centres on managing expectations.
He said: “I don’t overly get too caught up in last week’s results in terms of how it affects us this week, especially for the opposition. That can be a distraction.
“They’ve [Norths] got too many potential match-winners for us to ever sort of take the game lightly, and we’ve got to be careful we don’t read too much into the fact that we started the season well.”
In one-dayers last round, Norths were soundly beaten by South Tamworth and Wests comfortably beat Bective East. Mudaliar said Wests would field a “reasonably strong” team on Saturday.
He said the clash would be another “learning experience” for inexperienced first-grade bowlers Alex Cook and Stu Irwin.
