The six top-grade sides will each play two matches in what Tamworth and District Cricket Association president Ben Middlebrook says will be a smorgasbord of power hitting over six contests.
Middlebrook hopes the decision to replace the long-standing franchise-based Twenty20 competition with a club-based comp will rejuvenate cricket’s most explosive format and re-energise the game’s fans.
He said: “They’ll be colour clothing and a white ball and it’s fast-paced. Hopefully a few people come down. Barbecues will be running.
“Hopefully it all works out. Hopefully we can attract a few people – put on a show for them.”
Middlebrook singled out big-hitting North Tamworth skipper Brendan Rixon as a player to watch, after he bludgeoned a century in a one-dayer against City United last weekend.
The matches begin at 10am, with Bective East playing South Tamworth at No.1 Oval and North Tamworth and West Tamworth clashing at Riverside 1.
Old Boys and City United play at No.1 Oval at 1pm, with Bective East and North Tamworth meeting at Riverside 1 at 1pm.
At 4pm, Old Boys confront South Tamworth (Riverside 1) and West Tamworth play City United (No.1 Oval).
