Rainfall has seen Tamworth District Cricket Association first grade sides take to the field just twice after a month’s worth of matches.

The first grade competition is set to play two weekends in a row for the first time this season with just a 50 per cent chance of one millimetre of rain on Saturday.

“It’s always good to get some cricket under the belt and hopefully it stays away tomorrow and even Sunday so we can give the Twenty20 a crack,” Smith, who is based in Armidale, said on Friday.

“It’s obviously frustrating, especially when you’re travelling down to Tamworth and then it gets rained out.

“It [rained out matches] happens a lot but that’s just cricket.”

United meet with Old Boys on No. 1 Oval with both sides after their second win for the season.

Smith has tinkered with his side after United was belted by North Tamworth, in particular Brendan (124*) and Michael (61) Rixon, last round.

Tait Jordan was restricted in that match due to muscle soreness but is set to line up for United on Saturday with a young gun to make his debut.

“I’ve made a couple of changes,” Smith said.

“We’ll be really looking to Tait, and Joey Mead will be debuting for us.

“He’s been playing some good cricket in second grade and I’m looking forward to seeing him out there.”

Smith said Mead – who has snared figures of 3-28 and 1-19 in seconds – bowls fast medium pace and is likely to be brought into the attack as a first change bowler.
