The federal government has committed $75 million to upgrade the dam from 6.3 gigalitres to 44 gigalitres. However, the $150m project cannot go ahead without funding from the NSW government, which it will not provide until the $850,000 study has been completed.
The study was originally due to be completed in 2018, but in June it was revealed the study’s timeline had been moved forward and would be finished by August.
The Leader understands the study has been completed, however it found upgrading would be more expensive than anticipated, forcing details to be double checked – something the government was unable to confirm.
It took more than three weeks for NSW Water Minister Niall Blair to respond to The Leader’s inquiries.
A spokeswoman said the government was “working closely with WaterNSW to deliver the feasibility study”. “There have been no changes to the delivery timeline,” she said.
