Supercars teams, drivers, staff and pit crews travel to each racing destination, but so to do hundreds of other people including their wives, partners, families and children.

Prodrive Racing was among the teams at Mount Panorama for the Bathurst 1000, and its marketing director Peter Trevaski said some race destinations offer a range of activities.

“More and more drivers are having children,” he said.

“As a sport we spend a lot of time on the road.

“Some of the more established ones [race destinations] are Adelaide, Gold Coast, Darwin and Townsville, are good at providing off-track activities.”

However, Bathurst Regional Council mayor Graeme Hanger said he has: “No plans to arrange off-track events specifically for Supercars families”.

“Bathurst Regional Council offered an extensive variety of family-friendly off-track events for the whole community to enjoy in the lead up to this year's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000,” he said.

Cr Hanger said the activities included: the driver and transport parade, driver signing sessions, Legendary Moments Dinner and the Saturday Street Fair.

“The events that were organised by council were attended and enjoyed by a mix of locals and people who visited Bathurst for the Great Race,” he said.

“BVIC [Bathurst Visitor Information Centre] provides plenty of  information on local tourism opportunities during the great race to visitors who are looking for something to do.”
