West Tamworth 508 Fire & Rescue NSW and Tamworth 452 Fire Rescue NSW were called to a house fire in Flemming Crescent, Coledale, about 3.20am Sunday.
Tamworth 453 station officer Shane Austin said crews located wheelie bins alight at the rear of a house upon arrival.
“The flames from the bins went up into the roof,” Mr Austin said.
The fire was quickly extinguished and both pumps returned to their stations.
But less than three hours later, at about 6am, both crews responded to reports of a fire at the same address.
Upon arrival, smoke and flames could be seen coming from the roof at the rear of the house.
Crews brought the fire under control and saved most of the vacant house.
“We do consider it to be suspicious,” Mr Austin said.
“It’s highly unlikely this was a natural occurrence.
“We’re reminding people to jump on to our website to check out to the home fire safety audit and if anyone would like us to come do a home safety audit, just ring the station.
“It’s a free service.”
