According to the federal government, 50,000 guns were surrendered, including 24,965 firearms in NSW and 16,000 guns in Queensland in the three month amnesty.
Oxley police spent last week collecting guns, parts and ammunition from licenced dealers across the command after the amnesty finished on September 30.
In Tamworth alone, almost 400 firearms were handed into police including shotguns, rifles and pistols.
“Any person found in possession of an unregistered firearm after September 30 will be dealt with according to law,” Oxley Sergeant James Parsons said.
“We would encourage community members to contact local police if they have any information on the whereabouts of unregistered firearms.”
