They had little trouble finding the back of the net all year, but Workies’ inability to convert their chances proved to their peril in Sunday’s grand final.

That was in coach Andrew Farmilo’s view the difference as Kiwis upset them 4-3 in extra-time to wrest the Tamworth men’s first grade premiership from their grasp.
It was somewhat dejavu for Workies after being taken to extra-time by South United last year, ironically after being locked at 3-all at the end of regular time.
But this time they couldn’t find the golden strike.
Not for lack of opportunities, much to Farmilo’s frustration. They had the weight of the chances but the finishing touch wasn’t there.
“We created enough chances but either we had a lack of composure or we expected someone to put the ball in the back of the net and weren’t making that effort,” Farmilo said.
He credited Kiwis for their performance, particularly in defence. “The desperation in the circle for them was good,” he said.
