EXCITEMENT is building amid moves by the University of New England to bring face-to-face teaching opportunities to the Tamworth area.
Late last month the university confirmed to The Leader it was exploring opportunities to deliver courses in the area within a number of disciplines and the prospect of more facilities on the cards.
It was a cracker of a month for the education provider who for the 12th year in a row earned the top five-star rating from the Good Universities Guide for quality of student experience.
The 2018 Guide also awarded UNE five-star ratings in six other categories, including teaching quality, student support, graduate employment and median graduate salary.
Within fields of study, the guide awarded the university a total of 38 five-star ratings for excellence across these categories.
“The ratings also tell us that because of the way UNE educates and supports its students, they go into their careers very well equipped to excel in the race for employment,” UNE Vice-Chancellor, Professor Annabelle Duncan said.
“For instance, the Guide found that UNE business and management graduates are the best paid in the country — just under 90 per cent join the workforce on a starting salary of at least $65,000. Our graduates also fall into the highest category of starting salary for Law and Psychology.”
As momentum builds for the University to make its move in Tamworth, potential future students in the city’s schools have had their say on what courses they’d want a university to bring to the area.
Calrossy Anglican School’s careers adviser, Charles Impey, pulled together statistics for the career ambitions of the school’s senior cohort, with a career in health at the top of the many of the students’ wishlists.
Health and human sciences* is proving to be most desired industry for Calrossy kids, with 49 students expressing an interest in careers such as nutrition, physiotherapy and speech pathology, sports science and other allied health jobs.
There was a dream job in “creative industries”* for 31 students which included work in interior design, film, floristry, textiles.
Law was the aim for 25 students in years 10, 11 and 12, while nursing, midwifery or paramedic was the end-goal for 24 high school students.
