The Kootingal Kougars set up a junior committee, made up of junior players, to let them experience what goes in to running a club and what started as somewhat of a learning curve for the juniors, has turned into a blessing for the club.
“Things don’t just happen by chance, a lot goes on behind the scenes. While that was the reason it was formed, it’s been fantastic to have extra helping hands,” club president Noel Corney said.
“We gave them no set direction of what they had to do, just that they come up with one good event for the year and control it themselves.
“It could have been a fundraiser, for the club or for a charity, and they came up with Pull On Your Pink Socks Day.”
36 of the 43 Kootingal soccer teams participated on the weekend by purchasing and wearing the pink socks.
Training balls and cupcakes, amongst other things, were also sold on the day to raise funds.
Corney said all the juniors who joined the junior committee had a drive to help the club out.
“Absolutely, the kids that put their hands up to go on the junior committee, their families have all been associated with the club,” Corney said.
“They are the ones that help out and have been good club people.”
