The soccer fanatic has ambitions of one day wearing the green and gold, and running out for the Matildas.
The Tamworth teenager’s passion for the game was first ignited as a five-year old, and saw her spend the recent school holidays pretty much on the soccer field.
Not that she was complaining.
“I love it,” she said.
The first week Wallace was down in Newcastle for training with the Emerging Jets squad.
After a quick stop at home, Wallace then headed down to Sydney for the M Sports Cup Sydney Football Tournament, where she played for the Jets against teams from around Sydney and a visiting team from New Zealand.
“It was a really good experience seeing the different training, and how we play and New Zealand play,” Wallace said.
She then linked up with her Northern Inland Academy of Sport team-mates for their end of season tour.
The weekend incorporated games against PLC Sydney, training with Newington head of football Brian McCarthy and the opportunity to watch Premier League giants Arsenal take on the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Starting off playing club soccer with Carinya, Wallace now wears the black and white stripes of North Companions.
She plays up an age group in the 15/16’s competition, where she plays alongside older brother James and is in the only girl in the team, and also for the club’s Division 1 women’s side.
It has been a pretty rapid ascension for the McCarthy student, who is adept at playing in the midfield or at centre back.
Also a handy basketballer, Wallace made the decision to concentrate on soccer about three years ago.
This is her second year involved with the Jets and has meant regularly travelling down to Newcastle for training. For most of first term she was doing that once a week, leaving at 2pm and getting back after midnight.
“It has been really amazing. The difference between here, and the opportunities there, and they move the ball so quickly,” she said.
Her toils haven’t been unrewarded with Wallace currently assessing her options after being invited to trial for Sydney FC. She’s also received an offer to play for Manly Warringah and trial for a place at Westfield Sports High.
Whatever path she chooses, she hopes it will lead her to one day play for the Matildas.
“It’s been a dream for a little while,” she said, tracing it back to watching the Matilda’s play at the Olympics “a few years ago”.
“I really enjoyed that game. I thought I could do that, and so thought I’d start training,” she said.
More immediately her goal is to make the Northern NSW side for the Nationals.
Before that she’s got the State Championships in September, where she will play for the Northern Inland Football U14s.
