Kevin Anderson steps in to save Manilla viaduct

THE Manilla viaduct won’t be going anywhere until community consultation is held.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson stepped in and asked the Transport Minister’s Andrew Constance to put a stop to further action.
“I recognise the historic significance of the bridge and its connection to the community,” Mr Anderson said.
“I have spoken to the Minister’ office and put a stop to any planned action by John Holland until community consultation has occurred in relation to their work.”

“The Manilla viaduct is a stunning example of rail heritage which should be saved for future generations and projects such as the Tamworth Regional Rail Trail,” she said.
Tamworth Regional Council was less confident about saving the Manilla landmark and resolved to write to the State Rail Heritage Branch to enquire about preserving at least some part of the viaduct and also called for community consultation.
