Mon Ducrow is being remembered as a kind soul who dearly loved her community and her parish.
The 91-year-old died after she was hit by a car in Gunnedah at the weekend.
A Gunnedah police spokesman said a woman was struck by an eastbound four-wheel drive about 6pm on Saturday and died later that evening.
It is believed Mrs Ducrow had been on her way to church and was using the pedestrian crossing at the corner of Conadilly and Henry streets at the time of the crash.
Oxley Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A close family friend and fellow parishioner said Mrs Ducrow was a one-of-a-kind spirit who had time for everyone.
“She was just a positive, uplifting person,” the family friend said.
“Such a beautiful, generous soul.
“She loved children and loved her family.
“Everybody is just so shocked.”
She said Mrs Ducrow, who grew up in Gunnedah and was a nurse earlier in life, had “great faith” and was a much-loved member of St Joseph's Catholic Church.
There was an outpouring of support from the community on news of Mrs Ducrow’s death.
“Beautiful lady, so very sad,” one reader wrote.
Another posted: “So very sad, my heartfelt condolences to her friends and family.”
While another commented: “How absolutely devastating. Such a beautiful person.”
And this from another reader: “Our hearts go out to the family, she was much loved by all parishioners.”
