And that figure is still rising following a fundraiser last Saturday for the boy, who is suffering from a high-grade, fast-growing brain tumour called Medulloblastoma.

One of the organisers, Rodney Kent said the money raised was a “phenomenal” effort by the wider community.

“We had a fantastic weekend and there’s still money coming in,” he said.

“So far we have banked around $40,000 for Logan and there is still more to come in.

“It’s a credit to the people that came and to the whole community.”

Mr Kent said over 300 people attended the event, held at the Delungra Bowling Club, to support Logan and his family.

“All the gear that was auctioned and raffled on the night was all donated from people in the community,” he said.

“We had donations such as farm produce, chainsaws, welders and even little items like bottles of oil.

“There was even a tray for a ute and all the stuff donated was by local communities and business houses in Inverell, Moree, Warialda, Bingara and all over the place.”

Logan and his family pulled up beside the bowling club while the event was on – however due to a compromised immune system, Logan was unable to physically go inside.

“Because of his chemotherapy he couldn’t mix with people … but he came up and parked across the street and everyone went out and waved to him,” Mr Kent said. 

“Lionel Johnson, who is on the committee, said it was the biggest crowd he’s seen at the bowling club ever.

“For a town that’s the poorest postcode in Australia to raise $45,000 – it’s absolutely amazing.

“It’s country people digging deep for a little boy that hasn’t got a real good future in front of him for a while.”

Logan’s mother Sarah Taylor spoke to The Times last month about her son’s fight. “Despite his three major surgeries he still manages to give us a smile,” she said.

The first surgery removed a tumour the size of a small mandarin. Doctors operated again after he contracted bacterial meningitis. A third surgery removed a drain and put a shunt in place.
