On Tuesday night Councillors will examine moves to install lights at the intersection of Fitzroy and Marius Streets to improve pedestrian safety.
A report to be tabled at the meeting recommends Council endorse the traffic light proposal from Roads and Maritime Services.
It also recommends Council should move the pedestrian crossing with traffic lights in Marius Street between White and Fitzroy street further south along Marius Street between White and Hill Street
Tamworth Deputy Mayor Helen Tickle said the intersection of Fitzroy and Marius streets is one of the busiest in the CBD.
“Pedestrian safety within the CBD is an issue Council is working to improve,” she said.
“There is little doubt that traffic lights will best serve pedestrians, particularly the young and elderly, at this busy intersection.”
