The rising country music singer/songwriter was handpicked by the man himself and will embark on Brand’s 2017 National “Get on Your Feet” tour.
Impressed by Kirby’s boldness, creativity and incredible voice, Brand saw her as the perfect fit for his new tour.
“I met Gemma in Tamworth this year and after chatting to her I thought to myself, I'm gonna keep my eye on this one. There was just something so refreshing about her approach” he said.
Have you seen how much he jumps around on stage? I am really going to have to keep up!
- Gemma Kirby.
After becoming a finalist in the 2016 WA Music Awards and 2016 People’s Choice Awards for her debut video Fallen Solider, it’s followed a string of performances in high profile venues including the Gympie Muster and 2016 Lights on the Hill.
Kirby said she is excited to be joining Adam Brand but is a bit worried about her fitness levels.
“Have you seen how much he jumps around on stage? I am really going to have to keep up,” she said.
“I have looked up to Adam from am early age. He is an inspiration, both personally and professionally and I can’t wait to hit the road with him and his amazing band next year.”
Kirby described the call up as the “best Christmas present ever.”
“We had it in the pipeline, he kind of mentioned it to me a couple of months back and he’d been following me on Facebook ever since the last Tamworth Festival,” she said.
“It came about over the last couple of months, I thought it was too good to be true and then it just happened – it was a whirl wind of a roller coaster.”
It’s been a busy year for Kirby who’s third and most recent single/video release off Semi-Precious, is Deceiving Eyes.
It is the first interactive film clip in the Australian Country Music Industry and is a powerful video about Gemma’s younger sister who became an ice addict. It is brave and powerful and sends an important message to young people about the dangers of drug use.
