The small Tamworth school pulled off a huge achievement on Wednesday, defeating Sydney-based Coogee Public School in the state final for debating in the division for year five and six students.
The Timbumburi team of Isabella Bramley, twins Zali and Josie Humble and Ava Sullivan went into the final series as New England regional champions coached by Lesley Lamb and Harley Walmsley.
The students successfully argued against the proposition “that schools should teach current affairs instead of history”.
More than 760 NSW schools competed in this year’s competition.
