GWYDIR Shire Council has given a vote of confidence to the incumbent leaders, returning John Coulton and Catherine Egan to the top jobs.

The posts as mayor and deputy mayor were open at Gwydir council’s first meeting on Thursday, but no councillors opted to challenge Crs Coulton or Egan for a leadership role.
Cr Coulton has “got a list of potential developments” the council are excited about, including a renewed solar power focus in the community.
Gwydir avoided a Fit for the Future amalgamation, but Cr Coulton said there is “always challenges” for the shire.
“We need to prove we are a viable entity to the state government,” he said.
Crs Coulton and Egan are joined on council by Tiffany Galvin, Geoff Smith, David Coulton, Marilyn Dixon, Curly Moore, Stuart Dick and Frances Young.
