TAMWORTH and surrounding areas should never have to go to Level 3 or 4 restrictions if the government department for water and irrigation was to get its act together.

Upon investigation, I have been informed that the Paradise drift wells can only be used when the water trigger reaches Level 4.
May I remind people, those drift wells supplied Tamworth with water until Dungowan Dam was constructed and the pipeline installed in 1959.
This supply catered for Tamworth’s needs for at least 32 years, until Chaffey Dam was then built in 1979.
Some 50 per cent of the water released from Chaffey Dam is used by council and the rest is lost downriver.
So it appears to me the most efficient supply of water would be from the drift wells.
This extra supply would alleviate the need to enforce Level 3 and 4 restrictions.
This in turn could maintain the beautiful city of Tamworth and its parks and gardens and those of the proud gardeners we have here.
So come on, Kevin Anderson, let’s get a change to the restrictions on the Paradise drift wells.
