TWO New England police officers yesterday received bravery awards for their rescue of a woman from bushfires at Tingha three years ago.

New England Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Rowan O’Brien and Senior Constable David Cribb received silver medals as part of the Royal Humane Society’s civilian bravery awards.
On November 17, 2009, the officers were involved in the rescue of a woman who was caught up in one of the severe bushfires that ravaged the Tingha area that summer.
On the day of the incident, it is understood the woman and the two officers were surrounded by fire on a property before they were assisted by aircraft which contained the fire. Inspector O’Brien is based at Inverell and Senior Constable Cribb at Tingha.
NSW Governor Professor Marie Bashir presented the awards at a ceremony at Government House yesterday.
Ten other NSW police officers received medals during the ceremony.
NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said he was very proud of the officers.
“I am incredibly impressed by the bravery of these men and women,” he said.
“They are as selfless as they are courageous.”
