As part of Catholic Schools Week, schools in the Armi-dale diocese celebrated the Spirit of Catholic Education Awards.
Armidale diocese director of schools Chris Smyth said the awards ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the significant contribution of members of the diocesan community to Catholic education.
“Their commitment to whole-school improvement and improving the outcomes for our young people is something to be proud of,” Mr Smyth said.
The ceremony was held on Wednesday and attended by 150 people. The awards presentation was preceded by celebration of the eucharist at Saints Mary and Joseph’s Cathedral, Armidale, celebrated by the Most Reverend Bishop Michael Kennedy, Bishop of Armidale.
Recipients of the Spirit of Catholic Education Awards 2015 are:
* Outstanding Educator – Early Career Teacher: Melita Roach, O’Connor Catholic College, Armidale;
* Outstanding Educator – Experienced Teacher: Catherine Stephen, St Mary’s, Armidale;
* School Officer: Maree Lovett, St Philomena’s, Moree and William (John) Brown, St Joseph’s, Walgett;
* Volunteer Supporter: Patric Millar, St Joseph’s, Glen Innes and Patricia Sinclair, St Philomena’s, Moree;

“The recipients have modelled the Catholic values and principles that underpin our communities,” Mr Smyth said.
“They have also worked to ensure learning for all is the focus of our schools. They have worked collaboratively, they are team players, and their results orientation means we have been able to see evidence of the impact of their work.
“These are the features of a self-reflecting and self-improving Catholic professional learning community and individuals like these award recipients are role models for all of us.”
