Mr Joyce had skin cancers removed from his face and said besides the large bandaids, he was recovering well.
“Some might say I’m having a nip and a tuck before the electoral photos in an election year – that’s not the case,” Mr Joyce said, laughing.
Mr Joyce said he was like most fair-skinned people in being susceptible to too much sun.
“Fair-skinned people get skin cancers, but it was good to get them removed over Christmas,” he said.
Despite taking some time off to recover, Mr Joyce said he still took in the sights and sounds of the region’s festivals.
“After my little interlude with a scalpel, I managed to get back to Guyra’s Lamb and Potato Festival and the last part of the Tamworth Country Music Festival,” he said.
“It’s great for the town and brings in so much money. It’s great for the artists and great to see Troy Cassar-Daley scoop the pool (at the Golden Guitar awards).”
