In the end they selected an extra player, swelling the GNA intake to 41 for the new program, GNA manager Scott Bone said.
“It was a difficult selection process,” he said yesterday.
“With more than 100 boys applying and playing at Jack Woolaston Oval last Saturday, it made the selections very difficult.
“There are a few boys who can consider themselves fairly unlucky but it’s not the end of the world if someone hasn’t made it.
“There are many more opportunities through next season to make rep sides.”
Bone said a number of players who came through the Country Championships with the Greater Northern Tigers Under 16s would be well placed in the senior of the two GNA squads.
“We have some very good kids from right though the region. There is a good mix of players from Group 4, 19 and 21.”
The first official function for the new GNA squad is an induction day at the Tamworth Sports Dome on Saturday, October 31.
That will also include fitness testing as well as talks with an NRL welfare officer.
CRL and NSW High Performance manager Matt Parish will also attend that session.
