Organisers of the $80,000 2015 Evocities MTB Series have announced Tamworth will stage a race next August, bringing together some of the state's top riders.
To be run at the newly completed Tamworth Mountain Bike Park, the event is part of a seven race series encompassing Evocities across NSW.
President of Tamworth Mountain Bikers Steve Mair said the club was abuzz at the news it would host such a prestigious ride.
"We're really excited about the event and this is exactly the sort of thing the park was built for," Mr Mair said.
He said the five-hour endure race would be staged in the afternoon to help showcase Tamworth's famous sunsets.
Riders will do multiple laps of the 12km, graded circuit, which includes nine different loops catering to different skill levels.
The event, supported by Fairfax Media, will be held on Saturday, August 8 and more information can be obtained by emailing the club on tammtb2340@gmail.com.
Just months after the official opening of the new track, Mr Mair said it had been embraced by the community.
"There are two important reasons the track was built," he said.
"Firstly, Tamworth has an obesity epidemic and we need to encourage our kids to get moving.
"Secondly, a mountain bike track helps attract professionals to a town.
"Mountain biking is a sport with a large demographic of professionals and tradespeople.
"When those people are considering a tree change, many of them look for places with a good mountain bike track."
