The fair opened on Friday at the Tamworth Town Hall, with Oxley High School Year 11 students playing and singing for antiques lovers and principal Simon Bartlett-Taylor officially opening the fair.
Organiser Helen Brennan said visitor numbers were up on last year and most dealers did “reasonably well”.
“The weekend went very well, with numbers certainly up on last year,” she said.
“We had close to 1500 through over the weekend.
“People were in on Sunday afternoon to make last-minute purchases.”
Mrs Brennan said the lucky door vouchers for the jewellery were very popular and the event was a “very happy occasion”.
“Most furniture dealers have sold items, but nothing really big,” she said.
“The jewellery has been really popular and small items like chairs and tables and smaller furniture items, rather than the bigger items.”
Although the profits had not yet been counted, Mrs Brennan said they would have raised close to $15,000 for Oxley High School.
It is the major fundraiser for the school and part of the money is earmarked for fitness equipment.
“Some is earmarked for gym equipment, to make the gym at the back of the school a first-class facility,” Mrs Brennan said.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the number of past Oxley High School parents who supported the event.
“I’ve come across a lot of parents who I haven’t seen in quite a long time, but had their children at the school in the 1980s and 1990s,” Mrs Brennan said.
Organisers are already readying themselves for next year’s event, with preparations under way for the 30th annual Antique and Collectables Fair.
