About 3.40am, two male offenders entered a 24-hour service station on Warialda Rd.
Inverell police Inspector Rowan O'Brien told The Leader the men were allegedly armed with knives and demanded cigarettes and cash.
"They left the store with an amount of cigarettes and cash on foot," he said.
"Within 20 minutes police had made a number of arrests and those persons are currently at Inverell Police Station where they are assisting police with inquiries."
