They include Chris Taggart (Tamworth) and Caleb Bergan (Hillvue) who both had convincing wins in their respective age groups, team manager Mike Cashman said.
“Chris Taggart went on to place ninth at the State titles at Eastern Creek, narrowly missing the State team in the 10 years division, and achieving the best placing of the North West Primary team,” he said.
Other Tamworth runners to make the North West team last year were Sienna O’Malley (Nemingha), Riley Turville (Tamworth South) and Mykenzie Semple (Moonbi), Turville again competing at Coolah this year.
“The Tamworth Zone team is hopeful of emulating its success in the team events at last year’s championships where it recorded two first places, one second, four thirds and one fourth in competing against 10 other zone teams in eight age events,” Cashman said.
“This year’s team has been busy preparing, with seven training sessions being held over the last three weeks, with more than 70 per cent of the team attending at least one session.”
Today’s primary events will follow this morning’s secondary run with the walk-the-course scheduled for 12.25pm and the first event (8/9 years boys 2km) starting 1.15pm.
To qualify for the NSWPSSA Championships at Eastern Creek on Friday, July 18, runners have to finish in the first six at Coolah.
