The 13th West Tamworth Seniors Tournament starts Saturday morning, West Tamworth Tennis Club president John Ball said.
He was having a hit with Peter Denton, Brian Guest and Peter Battle at West Tamworth on Tuesday when The Leader rolled up.
The quartet finished off a few volleys, lobs and spinning backhand and forehand returns to have a quick chat with us.
“It’s our 13th year – still going strong,” Ball said.
“At this stage we look like getting between 50 and 70.
“With the seven courts here we can cater for about 80. 70 would be comfortable,” he said.
Played in doubles format, the annual tournament is split into men’s, women’s and mixed age divisions.
“We range from 35 to 80. Are you playing Peter?” Ball asked of Battle.
“79,” Battle corrected.
Players from as far as Sydney are coming.
“We’ve even got the president of Seniors Tennis NSW coming. That’s a bit of a coup,” Ball said of having chairman Mick Bruton on hand.
“We’ve got them from all around the region – Gunnedah, Inverell, Armidale and from over on the coast at Port Macquarie and Taree too.
“It will be another good weekend.”
The tournament starts at 8am on Saturday and 8.30am on Sunday.
